My Journey

In 2015, my journey with children began at Apex Leadership Co., a company focused on organizing fun runs for elementary and middle schools. Over two weeks, I, along with one or two others, engaged with students across Sacramento, CA, discussing leadership. The culmination of our efforts was an exciting fun run to raise funds for the school. During my three years with Apex, I fell in love with children and connected with various stakeholders in over 25 different elementary schools. This experience sparked my interest in becoming a teacher.

Transitioning towards teaching, I started at a preschool, where I taught four-year-olds and gained valuable insights into the importance of play in early education. As I aspired to work with older students, I leveraged the network of principals I had built during my time with Apex to seek employment. Fortunately, many principals were willing to assist me in finding opportunities. I eventually accepted a teaching assistant position at California Montessori Project, a school I had cherished during my time with Apex, eager to explore Montessori education further.

A year later, I transitioned to a lead teacher role at the same school, teaching grades 1-3. However, my teaching journey faced an unexpected challenge as the world shut down due to the pandemic in March 2020.

Despite the upheaval, over the following three years, I transitioned to teaching grades 4-6, navigating a mix of distance learning and returning to the classroom. I found my stride with this age group, forming meaningful connections with students over multiple years.

Recently, I relocated to Asheville and decided to explore new opportunities in education. After a month of substitute teaching, I secured a position as a literacy tutor at Johnston Elementary, supporting 2nd and 3rd-grade classrooms. Shortly afterward, I joined Children First, a non-profit organization, where I now work at Estes Elementary. In my role, I lead small groups, focusing on supporting students below grade level in math and facilitating social-emotional learning development. I'm deeply passionate about the organization's mission and have embraced the vibrant community at Estes.

In addition to my full-time role, I've begun private tutoring to support more students on their academic journey. I'm enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with your student and provide the support they need!
